Joseph Yates
Governor of New York State 1823 - 1824
We didn't really find the grave of Joseph Yates. This is from an email from Kevin I received last year: Joseph Yates is buried in the churchyard of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in the Bronx. He was originally interred in a Yates family vault that adjoined the old Dutch Reformed cemetery in Schenectady. His body was removed with 12 others in 1889 to St. Peter's by his daughter, whose married name was Neill. According to the church, the vault Gov. Yates is in is marked only as "Neill" and gives no indication that Gov. Yates is in there. All of this info was initially uncovered in the late 1940s by William Efner, the former Schenectady historian. I looked for the Neill vault, but I couldn't find it. I'll have to do more research and make another run at it in the future. But, I assure you, if it was there, I went by it. |
