James K. Polk
James Knox Polk From a postcard |
Polk is buried on the grounds of the State Capitol Building in Nashville, Tennessee. After going to the Hermitage, we went west about 20 miles to Nashville. We found the State Capitol Building easy enough, but we had to go around the block a couple of times to navigate through the one way streets. Fortunately, it was Friday, after 5:00 p.m., so we had no trouble finding a parking spot. Polk, and the Capitol, are at the top of a hill. We climbed the steps and found the tomb. When we got there, there was a couple other people taking pictures too. With this grave visit it left me with four to go and I finally passed Manus Hand. Hand is the first person I know of to build a website dedicated to Presidential Grave Hunting. I never thought of taking pictures until I saw his site. Check out his site here. After the visit it was off to find a hotel. We stayed in Columbia and the next morning went to visit the Ancestral Home. Its a must visit site. We were greeted there by the director, John, and we found out we have a mutual friend.
